Thank you everyone for a great 2024/25 season at Lakeshore! Before you know it, we'll be back on the ice and next season Halifax is hosting the Canadian Curling Trials to determine the Canadian representatives for the 2026 Olympic Games in Italy. With any big event such as this, many volunteers are needed in a variety of areas - 50/50, information desk, community partnership, being a driver for teams, merchandise, etc... You can schedule shifts around your work commitments and previous purchased event tickets. Draws take place mornings, afternoons and evenings. I have included below a link to the exact page for info and the application to volunteer for this event. Sign up with a teammate or two (or three!) Spouses/partners can volunteer too - just enter "Lakeshore Curling Club" as curling club in the Additional Information panel of the volunteer page. Many members have volunteered in the past at these events and it's a great experience to help and see some fantastic curling. Not to mention maybe meeting a Canadian Olympic curler!
National events such as these Trials, or the Brier and Scotties, have benefits for the local curling community. The five metro Halifax curling clubs will receive a portion of the 50/50 proceeds and ticket sales (80% of the total, after expenses, divided among the five clubs) which could equal upwards of $40000.00. In order to be part of that equation, we need 50 volunteers and we are currently at 37. Just 13 more volunteers to go to help us be able to take on some big projects at Lakeshore such as having our ice shed floor repainted to provide a clean and bright playing surface, purchasing new ice making equipment to ensure the best ice conditions possible, and to purchase and maintain our supply of broom, sliders, and grippers for Learn-to-Curl and our junior program. There is no shortage of what we can do, but we need you in order to do it!
